ClimateXR
ClimateXR is a research project from Tel Aviv University's Immersive Media and Cognition group studying how immersive Virtual Reality affects psychological distance towards climate change. As XR Specialist, I developed VR simulations in Unity to measure how immersion influences perception and willingness to act on climate issues.
Research Question
Israel faces significant climate threats as a "hotspot" with projected temperature increases of +1.8°C by 2050 and 25% decrease in rainfall. While solutions exist, psychological barriers like "Psychological Distance" hinder action - events perceived as distant temporally, geographically, or socially receive less urgency. Our research investigated whether immersive VR experiences could reduce this psychological distance and foster pro-environmental attitudes.

Project Overview
ClimateXR is an immersive experience that combines environmental data with interactive 3D visualization to communicate climate change impacts in a compelling way.
"This project underscored his dedication to researching the cutting edge of technology and its potential positive impact on individuals and society."
VR Experience
I developed immersive VR simulations in Unity that placed participants directly into climate change scenarios affecting Israel. The experience combined realistic environmental simulations with neuro-feedback sensors to measure psychological and physiological responses. Participants used VR headsets while we collected real-time data on how immersion influenced their perception of climate change as a personal and immediate threat.

Impact & Findings
Our mixed-methods research demonstrated that VR simulations effectively reduced psychological distance - participants felt climate change was closer and more urgent after the immersive experience. Key findings indicate that embodied VR experiences make abstract threats like climate change feel more tangible and personally relevant. This research highlights VR's potential as a powerful tool for science communication, environmental advocacy, and fostering behavioral change toward sustainability.
