About

MakAR Lab

AR UI/UX Design Product Spatial Design Prototyping

MakAR Lab is an AR guidance system for Cornell Tech's MakerLab using Meta Orion Smart Glasses. It provides hands-free, step-by-step instructions for complex equipment, helping new users learn independently while reducing staff support burden through an intuitive admin dashboard for content management.

AR Guidance System

The core AR experience delivers contextual, hands-free tutorials directly in users' field of view. Students can access step-by-step instructions for equipment like laser cutters through gaze-tracking and gesture controls, with interactive elements that minimize cognitive load while maintaining safety awareness in the lab environment.

AR User Flow Storyboard

Collaborative Design Space

A shared AR environment enables multiple users to collaborate on 3D models and design files, whether in-person or remote. This feature transforms the physical MakerLab into a connected workspace where students can visualize, iterate, and share projects together, bridging the gap between digital design and physical creation.

Admin Dashboard

The web-based admin interface empowers lab managers to easily update instructional content without technical expertise. Features include AI-powered machine detection for automatic equipment recognition, drag-and-drop content management, and instruction grouping for complex multi-step processes, ensuring the AR system stays current with lab procedures.
